AI for an infrastructure inspection platform — technology partner

Overview

We worked with a partner in infrastructure maintenance and supplied the core image-analysis AI. Smartphones and deep learning diagnose the condition of roads and railways quickly and accurately.

Results

• •Inspections that needed special vehicles and large crews now run on video from ordinary patrol vehicles, at about one-tenth the cost
• •Used by more than 300 Japanese municipalities, covering millions of kilometres, and in more than 10 other countries
• •Several industry awards; the first smartphone-based method to pass MLIT’s performance-catalogue test

Our work

• •Built and supplied vision models based on more than 50 specialised models and 3.8 million labelled images
• •Detects and classifies damage such as road cracks, pavement defects, and small irregularities in track
• •Updates the models from field feedback
